The sparrow is singing a new tune and the scientists have not seen anything like it. The white-throated sparrow is changing their tune, which is rare, especially when it is not just limited to their local environment. It’s spreading. God is speaking here.

There are a few things that come up when reading this article. The sparrow was mentioned numerous times in the Bible and known for their musical songs as they went on with their day. They were also considered of little worth and seen to be annoying. However, Jesus referred to a sparrow in comparison to people that were considered lowly among others when He was referencing the FEAR OF GOD.
27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Jesus was comparing those that speak the Truth of Him WOULD BE compared to a lowly bird in this world; that what they say in obedience to God (because they truly fear Him over man), would be nonsense to those that are perishing (or not worth listening to). But yet, He encouraged them to say what God speaks to you no matter what, as He did (John 12:49; 3:11; 5:19; 7:16; 8:26; 14:10; 17:8). Jesus was pointing out that there IS VALUE in obeying what the Lord leads you to say and do not fear.
Jesus came lowly as well.
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
“Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘See, your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.'”
In fact, lowliness is considered great in God’s eyes (Ps. 18:35). We are to serve Him in lowliness (Acts 20:19). Paul said to remain lowly and meek while suffering (Ephesians 4:2). It also says GOD LIVES WITH THE ONE WHO IS CONTRITE AND LOWLY IN SPIRIT (Isa. 57:15).
The other thing that stood out when reading this article was the scripture that came to mind:
These birds are declaring, and IT IS SPREADING QUICKLY, to sing a new song unto the Lord! (Read all of Psalm 96 to get a feel of what that all entails). Also, the idiom ‘sing a new tune’ or ‘change your tune’ applies to this, in other words, change the way you talk about something or how you see or perceive something. There is a great change coming and it will spread quickly, confounding the wise in their own eyes (1 Cor. 1:25-31).
It makes me think of the words of the hymn, “His Eye is on the Sparrow”:
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
God’s got His eyes on His lowly for they are great among men. He knows your works, and the little power you have, but have kept His word and have not denied His name (Rev. 3:8). You are His most valued, His sparrows, and you will sing a new song (Ps. 98:1-9). Hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying…
