Recently the Lord has been bringing up this scripture for many. Today, is a point in time that God is about to get serious with those that do not want to obey Him and continue to follow after their gods in their lives.
26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.
Then today, I came across this article that speaks about how an early Israelite curse inscription was found in Mount Ebal (see Article: Early Israelite Curse Inscription Found on Mt. Ebal) or (Download Article Here). It was the EXACT curse mentioned above. God is saying something here to those that are wavering yet AGAIN, in disobedience. This is not the time! He is about to execute His judgements for those that have not listened to Him as He has warned you many times to deal with your issues that conflict with loyalty to Him wholeheartedly. Moses was a sign to many that if you do not obey the Lord and instead go into rebellion, you will not enter the land He has promised for you. In other words, you will not enter the promises of God.
Prior to the incident at Mount Ebal, Joshua led His people through battles at Jericho and Ai (Josh. 5-8). Once he had victory in those areas, or when he had conquered these lands, getting closer to the place where God had promised them, he took them to Mount Ebal to read the blessings and curses. We are in a time of great conquering in the spirit realm. And God’s about to fulfill great promises that have been fought over for many years BUT there is a catch here. It’s about true obedience. At the time some saw it as a renewal of their covenant with God. And they even agreed upon it when it was read (which shows they did hear what God was saying to them). God’s been speaking to many lately about the decision, are you in? Or are you out? No one can serve two masters.
MANY are in this place right now…the valley of decision (Joel 3:14). The day of the Lord is near! Do not take this lightly. The curses against His people for disobedience were involving: idolatry, dishonoring of parents, taking advantage of those who were vulnerable, withholding justice (associated with depriving strangers/or the fatherless in their times of need, agreeing with bribes to take from the widows or those who have no one else to care for them), murderers (this can be literal and by words), those caught up in bribery for gain, and various sexual sins.
The meaning of Ebal is ‘ancient heaps,’ ‘barrenness,’ or ‘Bel is Ruin.’ Oftentimes throughout scripture the Lord brought up these terms associated with His judgements. God laid cities uninhabitable and in heaps because of their wickedness. He cursed them to be unfruitful in all that they do (barrenness, Matt. 21:18-22). Also, the false god Marduk (later named Bel) which is derived from Baal, was a god that the Israelites were led astray by. This was a god that was associated with the city of Babylon. And later that city was captured and put to shame (Jer. 50:2; Isa. 46:1). I see that those that choose to disobey in this hour of warning, these things are coming their way—destruction, unfruitfulness of promises, and great shame.
His people and the world are about to see that God takes sin seriously. No longer will people think they’ve gotten away with sin before a holy God. This feels like a final warning before He does this.
DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY! HE IS VERY SERIOUS!
Notice how the Israelites saw this as a legal document (as said in the article). That means the Judge is at the door (James 5:8-9). Heaven’s court is much greater than man’s (the world’s courts). His word stands and executes His justice. He does not show partiality with anyone (Rom. 2:9-11). He is not a man that He can lie. He knows the works of all. And He judges according to His righteousness.
Fear God!
Hear what the Spirit it saying…
