Pride Before the Fall

April 4, 2019

Saul’s persistent rebellion against God caused him to lose his position as king early (1Samuel15). Because of people’s persistent rebellion against God, they will soon lose their positions as well. God will replace them with someone else.

Are you one that has been told to do something from the Lord, but haven’t because you have wanted to hold onto things He’s told you to let go of? Did you not carry out His instructions completely and instead partially? When Saul did this, he ended up setting up an idol unto himself (1 Samuel 15:12). Being disobedient to the Lord, leads to idolatry.

Your sacrifices mean nothing to him if they’re products of idolatry. You can claim you worship the Lord and ‘pretend’ to do all these things ‘in the name of the Lord’ but if you’re not doing them in obedience unto Him, they mean nothing. “For rebellion is like the sin of divination (witchcraft) and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.” (1Samuel 15:23)

Pride (arrogance) comes before the fall and rebellion comes before one is cast out (Genesis 3:24; Matthew 8:12; 25:30).
